Recognizing the need to stay engaged and inspired while maintaining social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis, the Asian Art Museum is shifting its programs to online platforms. While the museum is closed, we are hosting a range of virtual public programs to both connect with our audiences and support the work of our artistic and creative communities.

Writing the Storm is an all-levels poetry workshop led by Jason Bayani that engages poetics and poiesis (the act of making) through the processes of observation and discovery. This generative workshop will explore how we can access mindfulness in times of upheaval and disruption to fulfill our need to create, document, and unravel our experiences. Participants will have a chance to write and share their writing.

Space is limited to 30 participants. Zoom login will be sent with confirmation.

Jason Bayani is the author of “Locus” (Omnidawn Publishing, 2019) and “Amulet” (Write Bloody Publishing, 2013). He is an MFA graduate from Saint Mary’s College and the recipient of a Kundiman Fellowship. Bayani works as the artistic director for Kearny Street Workshop, the oldest multidisciplinary Asian Pacific American arts organization in the country. His publishing credits include World Literature Today, Muzzle Magazine, Lantern Review, and other publications. Bayani performs regularly around the country and debuted his solo theater show “Locus of Control” in 2016 with theatrical runs in San Francisco, New York, and Austin.
