Seeing Gender, the museum’s first exhibition to explore the collection through the lens of gender, is on view in the Tateuchi Gallery through Sept. 5, 2022. Non-binary and gender fluid depictions have existed in Asian art for thousands of years. With purposeful ambivalence, these portrayals of gender identity allow us to consider the limitations of duality.
