1-4pm Painting demonstration by Jamyong Singye

Khenpo Orgyen Chowang Rinpoche joins exhibition curator Dr. Jeffrey Durham in conversation to explore artworks on view in Awaken: A Tibetan Buddhist Journey Toward Enlightenment. They will reveal some of the ingenious methods that Tibetan Buddhist artists and teachers have used to guide the course of awareness for over a thousand years and the deeply meditative context in which and for which much of the art in Awaken was intended. Jamyong Singye, a master thangka painter, will be on hand to demonstrate his techniques of grinding precious minerals down to make paint and answer your questions.

Khenpo Orgyen Chowang Rinpoche, originally from Eastern Tibet and now residing in the Bay Area, is a meditation master and teacher in the Nyingma lineage of the Buddhist tradition. He is the author of “Our Pristine Mind: A Practical Guide to Unconditional Happiness” and is known for his accessible, passionate and joyful approach to personal transformation. In 2011, Rinpoche founded Pristine Mind Foundation (previously known as Atiamrita).

Born in remote Eastern Tibet, Jamyong Singye studied with renowned artist Ge Ga Lama. Recognized as a Living Master, he lectures around the world on Tibetan culture and thangka painting.
