Seoul-based sound artist Jin Sangtae improvises in the galleries using electronic devices.

Known as one of Asia’s most prominent experimental sound artists, Seoul-based Jin Sangtae improvises using amplified disk drives, radio, laptop, and other devices. This one-time performance takes place in the unique setting of an empty gallery between exhibitions, opening up possibilities to collectively experience space, visuals, and sound. Presented in partnership with 23five.

Sound/scapes invites artists to reimagine artworks and spaces at the museum through performance.

Jin Sangtae founded dotolim (닻올림), a small space in Seoul for improvised music, and has been organizing the dotolim concert series since 2008. He performs with non-musical objects collected through his experience that he has repurposed into instruments. The artist uses hard drives and materials configured into a main instrument, along with laptops, radios, and hacked electronics.
