Sharaku Unframed and Wind Whisperer: New Music from Left Coast Chamber Ensemble
Two new works from Left Coast Chamber Ensemble and panel discussion
Excerpts from a new micro-opera by Hiroya Miura, Sharaku Unframed, deal with a mystery surrounding Japanese woodblock artist Toshusai Sharaku, who produced 145 ukiyo-e prints around 1795. The piece features the samisen, a traditional Japanese instrument. A new piece by Karen Tanaka, Wind Whisperer, for flute, harp and viola is inspired by our exhibition Changing and Unchanging Things: Noguchi and Hasegawa in Postwar Japan. The live music is followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with the composers, musicians and scholar Elizabeth Berry.
