Chief Curatorial Director's Talk: Japan's Most Awkward Hands

Explore some of Japan's most awkward hands with Dr. Robert Mintz

Thursday, June 5, 2025

Among the most expressive, and sometimes strange features of the Japanese art in the Asian Art Museum galleries are hands. Sculptures made for Buddhist temples, prints made to advertise and celebrate kabuki theater, and images of beautiful people serving as ideal expressions of beauty and refinement all frequently feature awkward and distorted hands.

Space is limited. This invitation admits two and is non-transferable.
