From Page to the Opera Stage: Dream of the Red Chamber

Join Academy Award-winning designer Tim Yip ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") and Jay Xu, The Barbara Bass Bakar Director and CEO of the Asian Art Museum, for a discussion about the artistic inspiration behind Yip's sets and costumes for "Dream of the Red Chamber," returning this June to San Francisco Opera.
Adapted from the famous Chinese novel of the same name by Cao Xueqin (1719–1764), the opera recounts the story of a young man torn between marrying his true love or settling his family debt by marrying for wealth.
In this hour-long Zoom event, hear how Yip brought to life the textures and details of imperial China in his intricate designs, many inspired by items in the Asian Art Museum’s collection.
