Developing the Mandala Flow State Virtual Reality Experience
Join us online
Recognizing the need to stay engaged and inspired while maintaining social distancing during the COVID-19 crisis, the Asian Art Museum is shifting its programs to online platforms. While the museum is closed, we are hosting a range of virtual public programs to both connect with our audiences and support the work of our artistic and creative communities.
During the COVID-19 crisis, clearing the fog is more important now than ever. Join Dr. Julia Scott of Santa Clara University, project developer Max Sims, and Associate Curator of Himalayan Art Dr. Jeffrey Durham as they discuss the creation of the virtual reality experience Mandala Flow State, which takes the user through an immersive journey of a 3D mandala. The journey is clouded by fog that must be cleared by focusing one’s mind, which is analogous to a meditative state as measured by brain activity. This experience unifies traditional Buddhist practices and modern technological enhancements of self-regulation, which share the common goal of enlightenment.
Mandala Flow State was commissioned by the Asian Art Museum as part of the exhibition Awaken: A Tibetan Buddhist Journey Toward Enlightenment.
