Learn how to make knefah at this online cooking demonstration with Reem Assil, a 2018 and 2019 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: West, and owner of Reem’s, a bakery/restaurant with locations in Oakland and San Francisco. Assil will share her Palestinian recipe for this phyllo dessert soaked in syrup and layered with cheese honoring her late grandfather.

Assil founded Reem’s with a passion for the flavors of Arab street-corner bakeries. Growing up in a Palestinian-Syrian household, she was surrounded by the aromas and tastes of food from the homeland and the connections they evoked of her heritage, family, and community. She was named a 2018 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: West, San Francisco Magazine‘s 2018 Chef of the Year, and San Francisco Chronicle‘s 2017 Rising Star Chef.
